Who It’s For: Even though this book is required reading for any aspiring minister seeking Local License within the United Pentecostal Church International it is not just for ministers or aspiring minister, but for anyone seeking to grow in their understanding of Biblical Holiness.
What It Will Help You Do: Really seeking practical insight into Biblical Holiness? Each chapter in this book gives you wisdom and practical examples (as well as Biblical examples) to guide you toward your goal of understanding Biblical Holiness as well as taking your walk with God to higher heights. Rev. David K. Bernard gives piratical advice that can help anyone, regardless of where you are in your spiritual walk.
What’s Included: This book is a study of how to live the victorious Christian life. It will guide you in your pursuit of holiness inwardly and outwardly, avoiding legalism, protecting Christian liberty, and applying scriptural principles to everyday situations. Chapter by chapter, starts with Biblical perspective of each topic, which allows God's spirit to lead and guide you to the right outlook for your situation.
The Best Part: What you get in this book is exactly what the subtitle says, "A Second Look". Living a holy lifestyle that is pleasing in the eyes of God is not a lifestyle that is ran by rules and regulations but a lifestyle that is lead by a heartfelt desire to present your bodies as a living sacrifice to the one that gave you life.
If you apply everything you read in this book with all your heart, holy living is inevitable. But don't apply the principles that you find in this book because I tell you to or because Rev. Bernard would like you to, but because you actually sincerely want to please the God that gave you life.
What Would Make It Even Better: Usually I do not say this about books that I buy. But for what it is worth, I really would not add to anything that is mentioned in this book, or insist that something more accompany this resource. The only thing that you really need aside from this book to live a holy lifestyle that is pleasing in the eyes of God is the Bible itself, as well as a willingness to be intentional about changing some negative habits that have kept you from being what God wants you to be, and relying on God and His Spirit to guide and help you every step of the way.
How It Changed My Life: This book is packed with practical advice that will change your life if you let it. Allow God to help you in the areas where you are weak, and remain intentional about fixing the things that you can fix.
The dream of living a life that is pleasing to God doesn't have to stay a dream, it can become your reality if you allow God to help you and to remain intentional about things that you know you can handle yourself.
My Recommendation: Practical Holiness: A Second Look is a treasureable resource in and of itself, practical examples and applications that can be practiced today. The detailed examples in this book are not hard to understand and are as realistic as they can get. Each topic is clearly presented, so all you need to do is seek the mind of Christ as you apply what you read in this resource.
