Caring is Sharing...
By William Ballard
In the business world having multiples streams of income coming from one source of work is known as double-dipping. Authors, especially those who write nonfiction books, have similar opportunities after their books have been published.
Yes, the best thing you go to work on your next book, but in the meantime why not take advantage of the knowledge you've gained researching your present work?
Self-publishing gives you complete control over what you do with your content, so you should be looking to leverage that empowerment as soon as possible. Sharing your knowledge is what writing is all about, but no one says you have to always do it for free.
Try these five techniques for getting in front of people interested in your subject matter, which will create new wealthy streams of extra income, as well as unusual book marketing opportunities.
Become a Writer that Speaks
This idea is especially useful for nonfiction writers. Making the decision to not only write but to speak about your expertise can be an excellent source for supplemental income. Have you written a book about business? Offer your speaking services to business professionals in the area. The same goes for quilting clubs, writer's guilds, and any other group that meets to discuss a topic that is focused around the same subject matter in your book.
Provide Your Speaking Topics Online
Maybe you’re an introvert personality type and not good with speaking in front of people, or maybe you are not good with networking (AFF). If so, no problem, instead of running around trying to find groups to hear your talks, record your talks and offer them online for a price.
But back to providing your talks online. If you've got an evergreen topic that will always be useful and valuable, or if you've found a something new about your topic that makes your subject and talk unique, your videos can be a solid source of residual income for a very long time.
And bear in mind, you don’t have to be on the video. Your video can consist of just a PowerPoint or slide presentation with your voice in the background.
Become a Mentor to Other Writers
If you've mastered the process of getting a book from idea to published work, guess what…you've learned something that millions of people want to know. Offer yourself out as a mentor for one-on-one sessions, or as a coach in group sessions.
Become an Affiliate Marketer
Amazon has an affiliate program that allows people to sell their books and other goods on their own websites. When someone clicks from a writer’s personal website onto the Amazon site, Amazon pays the site owner (you) a small percentage of the purchase price that is being made by that buyer.
The awesome thing is that the site owner (you) gets a piece of the pie from that sale and everything else that buyer may purchase from Amazon at that moment. For example, if someone buys your book, then goes on to do his or her holiday shopping, you've got a big bonus coming!
Set up a low-cost website or blog and add your affiliate links to get a bit of a bonus every time someone buys your book. In other words, link to your webpage in all your marketing instead of just the sales page on Amazon. This way, you not only get paid for the sale of your book (royalty) but you also get paid the commission for that sale on top of the royalty earning.
Become a Freelance Writer or Magazine Article Writer
Just name a topic and you can find a niche magazine that covers it. Every publication like this needs material every month, and the some of the information you provide in your new book could be an ideal place editors to start.
Offer to write a piece based on one of your chapters, if your book is nonfiction. Using this strategy and taking your book and breaking it up into a short article series, you'll earn extra income from the new articles, plus an increase in sales from readers who like your work and want to read more.
Keep the Faith and Put That Belief Into Action!
Sharing is Caring...
