Are you struggling to get your prospects to respond to your call-to-actions? Have you read every book and article that you can get your hands on and still have not been able to find the secret to getting your prospects to act or take you up on your offer?
Reciprocity is your marketing secret and here is how to use it.
What is Reciprocity?
Reciprocity is an act of exchange. In other words, I give you something and you give me something. That can work in the physical since as the exchange of money for a product or service or it can also work in the subconscious since. Plus, it can also work interchangeably. For example, it is possible to exchange something intangible for something tangible. In other words, I can exchange an idea for money, and that is what running an information business really is all about, providing an idea and receiving monetary value for it.
However, the real question is, how do you use reciprocity to compel or persuade a prospect or potential reader/buyer to act or purchase your book?
One Simple Change on Your Sales Pages Can Make All the Difference
Many large Internet businesses have already discovered the secret that I am about to reveal to you and are seeing incredible results. For example, Amazon can be placed at the top of the list.
Have you ever noticed how Amazon paints a mental picture in a prospects mind by showing them that they can get one of their products for a cut off price? For example, you may find a book that has a list price of $21.95 but is slashed out and shown at a discount price of say $17.66 (consider the image below where the yellow highlight is located).
If you are a KDP author then you may have noticed that Amazon allows you to set promotions for your digital books in order to provide your eBook at a lower price for a framed out amount of time that you personally set up. For example, if you have an eBook that you normally sell for $9.99 you can set up a promotion for that book that can last a week (7 days), and set the price at $4.99 where Amazon will show that the original price ($9.99) is slashed out and the current price is highlighted. In addition, a clock ticks down to show the prospect how many days or hours the book will be at the reduced price.
All of this is designed to intrigue the potential buyer to purchase the product at the discount price before the time runs out. It is the power of reciprocity and scarcity at its finest.
If you have your own site where potential readers can purchase your books then I would recommend you do this same thing there. The following is an image of how I am using this method and strategy for my own digital books.
This is how you use reciprocity to sale more books.
Now Over to You…
Try it! If you are KDP author then set up a promotion where you put your book at a discount price for a certain period and then market that sales page through your online media channels such as social media or blogs. Speaking of blogs, also employee this strategy on your own website/blog where you can have complete control of how a “sale” like this will last and how much of a discount you are willing to give.
Then sit back and watch the sales come in.
