If you are writer, blogger, or speaker of any kind, then this is a must read review for you. Michael Hyatt is the former CEO of Thomas Nelson Publishing and is well-known throughout the higher ranks of the publishing industry. If you are a new writer or aspiring author, it would go without saying, Michael’s voice is ONE to listen to and to keep in high regard.
I do believe that this book is a must have on any newly inspired or aspiring writer and/or author’s bookshelf. However, I would highly recommend you read this review before making any hasty decision in purchasing this resource.

Who Is This Book For?
Are you an avid reader? Have you recently felt the tug at your heart to write a book? Is there an itch within your soul that can only be scratched when putting pen to paper (or fingers to keys)? Do you have a message that you feel the world needs to hear but can’t seem to find the right platform in order to voice your message so that the right ears harken to what you have to say and the right hearts beat to the rhythm of its melody?
Well, if you can answer yes to those questions than trust me when I tell you -- you are not alone! I was right where you are right now. There are many voices that have spoken into my life, one of which was that of my 8th grade English teacher who told me that I had a special way with words and a gift of sharing my heart through the written word. Over the years, the echo of that teachers voice has become louder and louder within my soul. It has become a voice that I cannot ignore.
Perhaps you have heard the same voice and message. It may have not come through the mouth of an 8th grade English teacher, but you have heard and felt the message nonetheless.
What Will This Book Help You Do?
Michael Hyatt (and myself for that matter) will never claim that it is easy to write a book nor will we ever claim that it is easy to make a significant ripple within the huge ocean of the publishing industry.
If you have recently wrote and/or published a book I am sure you can attest to that fact. There is just too much noise out there that you have to get through in order to reach the right reader and right ear for your message. In fact, believe it or not, it is just as hard to get heard within all of that noise even if you had a traditional publishing company backing you up all the way.
So… if the major writers and authors, that have already made a name for themselves, have to struggle to get heard in the midst of all the noise, what are we self-published authors to do?
Well, the answer to that question is – DEVELOP A PLATFORM! And that is exactly what Michael Hyatt helps you do with this resource.
Believe it or not, building a platform has never been as easy as it is today. Michael has over 8 years of experience in building and growing his platform and a following from starting at zero to moving into a tribe of faithful readers and subscribers well with into the hundreds of thousands.
Michael breaks down this book into five major parts:
What you will find within these pages are proven strategies, easy-to-follow formulas, and practical guidance to help you in the areas above from a knowledgeable and respected source within the industry.
The Best Part
In my opinion, the ideas that Michael gives in regards to setting up branding and marketing tools that present your message in the most positive light, and the strategies for assembling a pit crew of raving fans that will endorse your work to the bitter end is invaluable.
Let me put it to you like this: I am not an architect nor am I really good at putting things together with my hands. In fact, I struggle with putting a bookshelf together from Walmart. I have never tried to put a backyard deck together and if I did try it would probably take me hours to figure out what board goes where.
When I first started trying to build my “platform” my methods were a bit all over the place. Just like trying to build a backyard deck, I had no idea where to start. However, thanks to Michael Hyatt and Platform, he helped me to get all the ends and outs (nuts and bolts) of my platform organized and in a systematic way so that I could get my platform to where it is today.
That is the best part of this book in my opinion. Think of this book as a manual to help you set up your platform. If I was to try and build a backyard deck without a manual or blueprint, believe me, it would result in a huge disaster. The same goes with building your platform, and this is your manual or blueprint you need to successfully get your platform sturdy and ready for you to share your message to the world.
What Would Make It Even Better?
Now, as for negatives…
I really don't like being negative, but for those of you who are a bit more advanced, this may not be a major help to you as it is really meant for those that are just starting out. Plus, if you have followed Michael Hyatt’s blog for some time what you will find is that this book is no more than just refurbished content from his blog, in my opinion.
Now, this not all bad because it can become an inconvenience to have to go through back archives of archives of archives to find this content in Michael’s blog, therefore having it in a book form provides a sense of convenience.
Another thing I noticed about this book is that Michael Hyatt is a big Twitter promoter. It is clear to see that he recommends Twitter over Facebook. Now, there is nothing wrong with Twitter, per se, but if the majority of your audience and tribe is on Facebook rather than Twitter, putting all your energies on Twitter will not be very beneficial to you, so take that into consideration.
How It Changed My Life
As I stated above in the section, “The Best Part”, this book has really helped me by being the “manual” I needed to successfully build my platform. The information, strategies, and tips on branding and marketing have really done wonders for my platform and I give all the credit for the success of those areas on my platform to this book.
If you are an aspiring writer and author and are wanting to know how to get your message heard in the midst of all the noise within your marketplace I highly recommend, if you have not already done so, to get your hands on a copy of “Platform” (AFF).
