The Oneness of God is the first volume book in the Pentecostal Theology Series.
This book is one of the required readings for all aspiring United Pentecostal Ministers. I will be sharing reviews on the rest of the required readings for local license within the UPCI real soon.
Until then, I want to be a little transparent with you and really share with you what this book has meant to me.
The Wisdom I Found
I grew up in the Assemblies of God, who for the most part, preached One God (at least to my understanding) and believed in the infilling of the Holy Ghost as well as proclaimed the need for modest and/or holy living. However, they baptized in the titles (the name of the father, son, and holy ghost). In my youth I had never heard of baptizing converts in the Name of Jesus Christ. I did not learn this doctrine until I was in my early 20s. It did not take long for me to receive the revelation for Jesus name baptism, but as for the Oneness of God, I had always believed in a monotheistic type of theology.
I recommend you reading my blog post, "The Real Reason Why I Became an Apostolic Christian Believer."
When I read, The Oneness of God, Rev. David K. Bernard really presented the concept of a monotheistic God in such a way that I had never been introduced to before. Mr. Bernard holds a Law degree and has many years of a scholarly background, but in The Oneness of God, he presents the concepts and principles of One God in such a way that the unlearned can easily grasp.
I commend him in taking the time to write this book and share the Biblical Truths of One God for the rest of us to hear and embrace. I do not believe that there has ever been a book written on this subject, and delivered in this way, better then what you will find in The Oneness of God.
When I read this book I felt an extreme anointing on every page. I could tell how much prayer and fasting had gone before the throne room of God before this book must have ever been published.
I believe that you can definitely feel the Spirit of God come over you when you read this book. The Bible says that His (Jesus) Spirit will lead and guide us to all truth. I definitely feel that to be so when you read this book.
Rev. David K. Bernard emphasizes on subjects such as:
From my upbringing in the Assemblies of God (AG), I thought I had a clear understanding of the monotheism of God, but after reading this book I learned that the AG was only touching the surface of the concepts of One God. Now, when it comes to the baptism method that the AG follows, well clearly they are unaware of Biblical practices, but I will be getting more into that subject when I write my review on The New Birth.
The only negative that I can really state here is that I believe, in my opinion, it is time for Mr. Bernard to revise/update this work with more contemporary arguments and information. Perhaps an even a more highly detailed and exhaustive work would be nice for those that really want to take these concepts to a deeper level. However, despite this negative I believe that every soul that is hungry to know more about God and to have a deeper understanding of who He is should have this book in their home libraries.
