Book Review: The Strength of His Hand
By Lynn Austin
Book Review Written by Writer and Author, William Ballard
Chronicles of the Kings Book 3- God has rewarded Hezekiah's faithfulness with great wealth and power, but the godly king has no heir.
In desperation, his beloved wife takes forbidden measures to ensure fertility. With all that is going on in his kingdom-- and with the Assyrians approaching-- Hezekiah does not discover his wife's idolatry until it's almost too late.
Her betrayal cuts to the very core of his being and belief in God. Will his faith sustain him in the face of this deceit, and against an overwhelming enemy?
I have really enjoyed reading this series with my wife. Instead of watching TV, or movies, we have made these powerful, exciting, and suspenseful books into our coupled entertainment, as well as absorbing it up as spiritual food.
Of course, there is a bit of fiction in each one of these books, but Lynn Austin also has done her homework. Yes, some of the relationship stuff is fiction, but the life changing and serious accounts that took place in this book are right out of the Holy Scriptures.
Of all 5 books in this series, my wife has dupped this one her favorite. She, of course, has already read the entire series. I have only read up to this book. But from what I experienced while reading this book I can compliment my wife's thoughts by adding this: This book had me pulled in from the beginning of page 1.
Since reading this series....(if you haven't read my book reviews for the first two books, you can view them by clicking on the links below):
...I have emotionally always put myself in the shoes of each King that each story encompasses. When I read this book nothing had changed. I immediately put myself in King Hezekiah's shoes, or foot steps (I would guess this would be the same approach for any guy who reads this series). When doing this, I could personally feel the stress of what King Hezekiah was going through. A nation under siege and a wife falling into the sin of idolatry. What is a Godly King to do? Well...thank God for using His servant Issiah to speak through, and to, King Hezekiah in his weakest moments.
There really is a lot I could say about this book and how well Lynn Austin did in writing it, but what I could tell you really wouldn't give this book justice. You have to read for yourself. I recommend you get your hands on a copy (and the first two as well), and, if you are married, it is an excellent series to read together with your spouse.
