Is Persuasion Synonyms With Manipulation?
Look, let's be honest, many in our movement despise terms like sales and marketing -- and for good reason. Many have had bad experiences with stereotypical type sales people. Most would say that they don't want to come off as salesy or pushy -- trust us, we get it!
However, many have a misconception of what sales and marketing really is. You see, Direct-response style copywriting and Content Marketing is all about persuasion. With that said, many have debated whether or not persuasion is synonyms with manipulation.
We are of the belief that the Outreach department of a church is the equivalent to the Marketing department of a company or organization. You see, companies go out of business when effective and productive sales and marketing is lacking.
In other words, the sales people and marketers of a business are its "Evangelist." It is their job, their duty, their obligation to inform and/or educate the community of what their company or organization has to offer.
Now, I know we don't like to think in terms of transactions, but bear with us for a moment ...
Just like a company will go out of business if it doesn't have any income coming in, or experience any sustainable profit margins, so too will the church fall short on its mission when its Evangelistic communications (marketing campaigns) fail to inform, educate, and "compel" new people to come in so that the Lord's house may be filled (Luke 14:23).
Look, the fact of the matter is: even the Apostle Paul said that he had been "persuaded" on many accounts (Romans 8:38, Romans 14:14, and Romans 15:14). And the Apostle Paul was one of the most direct-message speaking Apostles. He knew that the message he had (the message of Jesus) was worth listening to, and made sure to tell everyone he could about that message, regardless of the response he got in return.
He wasn't being salesy or pushy... he was "persuaded" and passionate, and made sure that everyone knew how he felt and believed.

He conducts coaching and consultations primarily through Zoom, which allows you to join his online meeting room from any device or by phone. Calls and meetings are recorded unless requested otherwise.
William's one-on-one coaching and/or consulting fee for the hour generally begins around $1,250 -- but you won't have to pay that price here.
(Side Note: We are known to offer our copywriting and marketing services -- pro-bono -- to ONE church or ministry a year as way to give back. We hope to be able to increase that number to at least three churches/ministries within the next five years.)
