How to Obtain Influence Through The Power of Newsletters
Believe it or not, there is still a large amount of people who mistakenly believe the way to become an influencer is through the old style of authority -- correct others' errors, reveal their weaknesses, and give so-called constructive criticism.
However, here at William Ballard & Associates, we disagree ... we are of the belief that you cannot antagonize someone and have influence with them at the same time.
You see, at the heart of influence is a genuine concern for others, and we believe that the best way to obtain influence is through the art of nurturing (which we deliver through the medium of newsletters).
Now, you're probably saying to yourself, "why would I want to take on a nurturing role with people I want to influence?" You might be thinking, isn't that something they can get elsewhere, like at home?
However, the unfortunate truth is that most people are desperate for encouragement. And there is even fewer people out there who make it a priority to help build up others.
Look, if your desire is to have influence with people, you have to understand that people are influenced most by those who make them feel the best about themselves. In other words, when you become a nurture of others, you receive the opportunity to make a major impact in the lives of others.

Nurtures Obtain Influence Through Giving
Now that you have a little better idea of what means to lead others through the art of nurturing (newsletters), you are probably ready to learn how to do this with those in your life: customers, clients, and/or church members.
You do it by putting all of your focus on giving rather than getting. When you take advantage of our newsletter service today, you start by giving to others in these key areas:
Respect
Did you know that most people will do pretty much anything for you if you treat them with respect?
That means making it clear to them that their feelings are important, their preferences are thoughtfully considered, and their opinions are valued. Or as philosopher and poet Ralph Waldo Emerson put it, "Every man is entitled to be valued by his best moments."
In other words, listening to other people and putting their agenda ahead of your own shows that you not only respect them, but that you value their success over your own.
Sense of Security
Another important part of leading through nurturing is giving people a sense of security.
Part of making people feel secure comes from integrity. In other words, people feel secure when your words and your actions are consistent and conform to a higher moral code, like that of respect.
Former Notre Dame head football coach, Lou Holtz, put it like this: "Do what's right! Do the best you can and treat others the way you want to be treated, because people will ask three questions: 1) 'Can I trust you?', 2) 'Are you committed?', and 3) 'Do you care about me as a person?'"
Moreover, people desire security within their environment. You cannot obtain positive influence with others and make an impact in their lives if you are not able to establish complete trust with them.
Consider what basketball head coach at Duke University, Mike Krzyzewski, had to say about this, "If you set up an atmosphere of communication and trust, it becomes a tradition. Older team members will establish your credibility with newer ones. Even if they don't like everything about you, they'll still say, 'He's trustworthy and committed to us as a team.'"
Recognition & Appreciation
A too common mistake, especially with leaders within the marketplace is that they fail to share recognition and/or show appreciation for those they serve.
Consider what former Secretary of State and World Bank president, Robert McNamara had to say, "Brains are like hearts -- they go where they are appreciated."
Regardless of what most will say or admit, everyone is hungry for appreciation and recognition. With us, we aim to walk slowly through the crowd, remembering peoples names, and taking the time to show them that we truly care; for we make others a priority in our lives, even over our own agendas.
Through this newsletter service, not only will you be able to lift up your customers, clients, and/or members, but it will make you a person of significant influence in their lives.
Encouragement
Finally, very few things help a person like encouragement does.
William A. Ward said: "Flatter me, and I may not believe you. Criticize me, and I may not like you. Ignore me, and I may not forgive you. Encourage me, and I will not forget you." You see, the ability to influence is a natural by-product of encouragement.
Moreover, just as much as encouragement compels people to want to follow, so too does withholding encouragement have the opposite effect. In other words, lack of encouragement can hinder a person from living a healthy and productive life. But when a person feels encouraged, he can face the impossible and overcome incredible adversity.
And the person who is able to provide that gift obtains the ability to have positive influence in that person's life.
What Your People Receive Through Our Newsletters
You may be wondering, "what makes newsletters different from emails?"
Truth be told, our newsletter service is more about what your people receive than what you (as the business owner) get. What I mean by that is this: When you choose to nurture your people through our newsletter service they receive the following:
- Positive Self-Worth - "Self-confidence is the first great requisite to great undertakings"
- A Sense of Belonging - When your people feel like they belong, it's no wonder how they become devoted
- Perspective - For most, it's not what they are that holds them back, it's what they think their not
- Feelings of Significance - When you nurture people and add value to them, without expecting anything in return, they can't help but feel significant
- Hope - Through hope, people maintain a reason to keep trying and striving for the future.
Look, you more than likely have heard about the Know, Like, and Trust factor; and you probably got the know part down fairly well -- maybe even the like part -- but you may be falling short in the trust side of things.
Dr. John Maxwell maintains, "You can not have influence (or credibility) where trust has not been established; and the only way to obtain influence and trust is through connection, which requires energy."
That is where we come in.
Our new Newsletter service is designed to assist you with establishing the trust and credibility you need, to not only generate new customers and clients, but also to keep your current customers and clients coming back over and over -- and we do that by connecting with your people through the art of nurturing.
In other words, what makes newsletters different from emails is that their sole purpose is to add more and more value to your people. Once again, it's more about giving than it is about getting.
