Long Version
You can say that William Ballard was a late bloomer. He didn't find his path and purpose in life until in his mid 20s. You see, when he was much younger, his English teachers in Jr. High and High School always told him that he had a particular way with words, and that he should consider pursuing a career in writing. However, even though William did enjoy writing (poetry and creative writing) and was in awe at the ability to pass thoughts and ideas around in the form of the written word, he didn't really see it as a profession to be proud of, or something that could be financially accumulative.
A huge blindside in his viewpoint that later became more clear.
When he wasn’t pursuing the unrealistic dream of becoming the first Hispanic to enter into the NBA, William was always drawing and writing poetry. But when he graduated High School at the age of 19 he was on his way to California to become a United States Marine. He served six months in the military before being medically discharged and then entered a career as a security officer. During his tenure in the security industry he pursued other ventures on the side such as starting, launching, and running a Network Marketing business.
It was during his entrepreneurial pursuits in the Network Marketing industry that he began to discover the world of blogging. He read every book written on the subjects of sales and marketing, blogging, freelance writing, publishing, business, and so on, that he could get his hands on.
In the midst of his tenure in the security industry and his self-taught pursuits in the Network Marketing industry he also was going to college (where he wrote for his college newspaper as a staff writer). He earned an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice and a Bachelors in Business Management.
And if that isn't enough, it was when he was 19 years old that he felt the call of God on his heart to ministry. It was around that time when he left California, moved to Oklahoma to live with his Grandfather to focus more on his college education, where he started attending a small local Apostolic Church. That was the time and place God started really going to work double time on his heart. He explained how he felt the call of God on his heart to his local Pastor, but humbly shared to him that he knew nothing about ministry and had no idea where to start. His Pastor told him, “Don't worry, just stick with me and with the Lord's help I will guide you.” That man became William's mentor from then on.
William served (and still serves) in a great capacity as a lay-minister within the Kingdom of God preaching, teaching Bible Studies, leading outreach events, and doing whatever he can to lend a hand towards the work of the ministry around the church. In July of 2014 he published his first book, The True Writer's Life: Discovering The Author and Finisher of Our Faith, and since then has self-published over 8 e-books. He started his own writing business, which continues to grow. Today, as a writing and marketing mentor, he works with small business owners, churches and non-profits, authors, speakers, and experts that need help getting their stories out to the world.
William travels North America giving workshops and keynotes on publishing and marketing topics to businesses and churches, nonprofits, and entrepreneurs. As writer and publisher of the popular direct mail newsletter “The Hardworking Wordsmith Letter,” he shares publishing, writing, blogging, social media, and sales and marketing tips in each issue.
He currently lives in Grand Prairie, TX. where he is always working to find new ways to help aspiring writers reach their author dreams.
