6 Steps to Guest Posting for Me
Here are my writer’s guidelines:
- Become a subscriber to my blogs and read them a while. Nearly all my successful guest written articles come from regular readers.
- Read and follow these guidelines to the "T". Seriously, you would not believe how many writers pitch me who have clearly never read this page.
- Submit your best headline idea AND outline for your proposed guest article, in the body of your email. If I’m interested, I’ll probably ask for some tweaks before giving you an assignment.
- Receiving an assignment is not a guarantee of publication. So remember to write the heck out of it.
- Typically for new guest writers, I prefer a 500-word article (unless I’m assigning you a specific idea from the list above at a longer length that we agree upon).
- On the day your article goes up, please come on and respond to comments. Part of being a writer and guest writing here means you help with driving engagement and social sharing of your article.
I DO NOT ACCEPT ADS, PAID LINKS, OR SPONSORED POSTS
If you are an agency or company trying to place guest posts for links, I am never, ever going to accept posts from you. You can really just take me off your list now (you will be surprised how many pitches I get like this -- it really drive me nuts!).
The same goes to those of you who want to pay me to publish your sponsored post with your links, or go back to an old post of mine and stuff your link in. Not every going to happen. So... please don't bother.
I Will Only Respond if You Are Truly Interested
Due to the volume of pitches I now receive, I am unable to respond to all the pitches that aren’t a fit for this website. If you don’t hear back from me, you might want to re-read this page and work harder on your proposal. For instance, I’d say well over half the pitches I get have obvious grammar errors, or are on a topic that we don’t cover at this website or at any or our five blogs. Don’t be that writer.
There are three types of posts that work well (however, there are many more to choose from other than the three examples shown below),

Most importantly – be sure to include links to three articles you have written that are similar to what you would write for our five blogs.
(NOTE: While we’re happy to accept submissions for possible contributors, unfortunately we will not be able respond to each and every one of you. If your submission ideas sound like a good fit for our audience — we’ll be in touch!)
- You share results – In this kind of article you will be sharing the results you have achieved from a specific topic or subejct as mentioned above in your own business or a client’s business. You will explain the strategy or tip that you are proposing, share the data/results and show the readers (within reason) how to execute on the stratgey or tip. - You share expertise – In this kind of article you will make recommendations to improve the our readers digital marketing efforts that is based on your expertise in the field (the subject or topic mentioned above) Although you may not have your own results to share you will show (through screenshots usually) examples of world-class companies, authors, and entrepreuers that are doing what you recommend. - You share “How-To” – In this kind of article you will show our readers how to execute a specific strategy. Once again, use lots of screenshots and examples wherever possible. Here is an article that gives a good example of this: How to Optimize the Most Important Pages in Your Marketing Funnel
